Very Odds & Ends

Some highlights from the past week or two...
  • Skeey bids a fond farewell to two F.O.S's (Friends of Skeey). Dennis Valencia has up and moved to Sacramento, California, and Drew Rogers is in en route to Nashville, Tennessee. Besides being two of our only golf friends, they're two great guys and their presence will be missed. But at least we can now visit two more places in the U.S. without spending money on hotels. Warning - we travel light but leave a mess.

  • The Lord taketh two friends, and the Lord giveth one back. Danny Lewin makes his official appearance on the Skeey website.

  • Gavin just installed aTV Tuner card on the Mac in the corner. Hooked it up to our Comcast box, and, voila, cable TV in the office. We officially no longer have a reason to go home at night. Spouses will not be happy about this development.

  • I'm back to coffee on a part-time trial basis. 16 ounces a day won't kill me.

  • Best new book I've read? "You: The Owner's Manual". It's a light-hearted yet informative look into the human body. Also has a chapter on dieting. Down to 195 lbs, a 9 lb loss in the last month. Who'd have thunk that not eating a pound of steak loaded with blue cheese dressing every day would result in weight loss? Bizarre.

  • The Yankees cannot beat the Red Sox in the long run. Breaks my heart to admit it.

The band is back together

The trip to St. John was awesome. It was a little strange seeing that much daylight in one week. I had become so accustomed to our dimly lit basement that I felt a bit out of sorts for the first couple of days. I had to wean myself from the dark by sitting on the lower deck of the villa with my laptop until the nausea passed. The beautiful view and rum and Coke also helped.

Anyway, I was able to connect to the Internet on my laptop with my Smartphone. I partnered the two devices via Bluetooth and was able to use phone as a router to connect to the web. Pretty cool. A nerd on vacation is still a nerd.

Three entries in one week? Wh-wha-what?!?

It's 5 pm on Friday and we have officially survived the week without Gavin. And CK and I each had 50% more ORF today! Good times all around.

And, now, a story about bad times...

Several weeks back, I decided to purchase "Capote" on DVD. I like Philip Seymour Hoffman, heard he was great in the movie, no one invited me out that Friday night, etc. Everything came together perfectly for a one-man movie night.

Until I decided to open the DVD.

Now excuse me while I channel Seinfeld...
But what's the deal with DVD security? First you have the plastic wrap to negotiate. You can either use your fingernails if you're a girl, or you can use a knife if you're a guy and/or slasher. So now you've got a knife in your hand and you're trying to cut the plastic. Visions of slicing your finger off dance in your head, and you start having flashbacks to "Three Fingers Brown", your high school wood shop teacher.

And then, you finally get past the plastic wrap, and now you have the two security tabs that are equally impossible to remove. It takes me 3 hours to watch a 2 hour movie. And since when did DVDs become high-security items? Can't you buy them right on the street for 5 bucks, or go online and find them for free? Let's focus on airports, people.

And what's the deal with Dunkins Donuts? They take out the middle part of the donut, and then they charge me extra to buy it back as a munchkin?
...end of Seinfeld.

So, I successfully get the plastic off the "Capote" DVD, and what do I find on the cover? A four-inch long piece of hair! How the heck did that hair penetrate security? And whose hair was it? They haven't automated DVD production with robots and stuff? Where's all my tax money going then?

As far as the movie, I didn't care for it. The hair ruined my night.

Hair and there

We are happy to announce that, as of 11:20 am, the Official Jason Priestley website is live. Who'd have ever thunk? Sure, it took us longer to do than it took the 90210 gang to graduate from West Beverly High, but you really can't rush these things, especially when "Find kinky dog music" is on the list of to-do's. Anyway, we had fun with it, Jason had fun with it, and hopefully you'll find it enjoyable.

Also, CK posted the May edition of his Seacrest Out Exp-hair-iment. He says it's "in between", and I have to agree - it's in between gross and disgusting. On the bright side, I'm looking better and better in comparison each day.

One leg short of a stool

At our last quarterly meeting, we drew straws to see who gets to go on vacation this year. Gavin won, and is thus officially out of the office this week. Well, not really, since he brought his laptop and has sent us emails three straight days. You can take G-Dog out of the office, but...well, you know the rest.

Anyhoo, that leaves CK and I in charge of affairs. Considering I forgot my office keys this morning and then came in to see my computer with the Blue Screen of Death, I'd recommend shorting whatever Skeey stock you have. CK and I alone is like removing Curly from The Three Stooges. Instead of three guys engaged in wacky antics, you just have two guys with goofy haircuts.

Super Duper Tired Mode

How do you cope with being in the office for 24 hours straight? Well, if you're CK, you dress up like Punky Brewster's and Freddy Krueger's love-child and take a nap on the couch.

I was all set to gently nudge him to wake him up, but Gavin's suggestion of blaring "Good morning, Vietnam!!!" was much more effective. And quite accurate.

We'll post a link later today that shows the fruits of his all-night labor. Seriously, it's a grape site.
