Pawtucket, RI. c/o Providence.

Paid some bills last night. Why not start the week off right? Took care of the "motor vehicle excise tax"....strange fee, not sure I understand it. And in a word -- ouch.

But the real joy came when writing out the envelope. Looked like this:
City of Pawtucket
PO Box 1432
Providence, RI 02905
The City of Pawtucket gets their mail delivered to Providence?

Would sending the City of Pawtucket a letter to Pawtucket itself result in some weird circular self-referential gaping hole in the universe? Probably just be returned to sender, but still. It's bad enough that the town has the absolute worst website in the history of mankind (I dare you to find where you pay the car tax online).

They're lucky that Sam's Weiners and Twin's Pizza make up for these sins.

UPDATE: Employee #4 Tom has notified us of this site: http://www.skichair.com/. Now that's the worst (and funniest) site out there.

Employee Survey #1

Our esteemed intern Tom has been around for four days. That's plenty of time for him to learn the company, discuss long-term goals with HR, figure out who he can make fun of, etc. And as part of our employee education process, we are making his first employee survey available to the public.

1) Is it fair to say that the last week has been the greatest
week of your life?

[x] Yes
[ ] Pretty much
2) When you walked into the office, you probably noticed a distinct smell. Did you view that as the smell of success, or the smell of three guys that rarely shower?

[x] Success
[ ] Lack of soap
3) Which of us has made the biggest impact on your life?

[ ] Al
[ ] Gavin
[x] Zuzu
[ ] Robo
[ ] Someone else
4) In a word, describe CK's fascination with his hair?

[x] Silly - Impressed am I by his bouffanted coif of hockey hair
[ ] Obsessive
[ ] Girlish
5) When you tell your female friends that you work with three studs, their first reaction is:

[ ] "Woo hoo, how do I get a job there?"
[ ] "No, there's only two of them"
[x] "That Gavin is especially dreamy"
[ ] "I've seen the webcam. No comment."

Friday ORF-sized tidbits

More random thoughts and facts....
  • My mom took time out from writing her memoirs (tentatively titled "Hidden Genius: The Life & Times of Sue Shaw") to answer two questions this week. The first, from Kathy, deals with cleaning license plates. That tells me that Kathy's either a collector or an interstate criminal. Hopefully the former, because neither Skeey nor my mom tolerates crime. The second has to do with white sugar. Apparently, my mom's the sugar expert, which is hilarious because my dad does all the cooking. Which gives her time to read books in her study. And by "read books in her study", I mean "watch Home and Garden in the spare TV room". But that's just semantics.

  • A happy five-year anniversary to our very own Chris Kane and his wife Jen. Five years....who'd have thought. And to think that he was a good-looking dude for four and a half of those years.

  • New NetFlix recommendation -- Season 1 of "Lost". Yeah, I know that I'm very late to the bandwagon on this one. Truth is, never saw an episode the first two seasons, nor had any desire to watch it. But I figured I'd give Season 1 a shot via NetFlix. Popped in the first episode, expecting not to like it and call the experiment off early. Instead, got hooked from the first five minutes, and then blazed through 24 episodes in record time. I have no idea if Season 2 was any good, but Season 1 is a classic.

  • Gavin is kicking butt on the daily "Price is Right" Showcase Showdown contest. The man simply knows retail. Need to know how much an RV costs? He's your guy.

  • The 6th annual Shawn M. Nassaney memorial race is September 17th at Bryant University. Tickets will be available for on-line purchase soon. So please come out and support a good cause. Plus my mom and I will be there. Autographs limited. Umm, yeah.

  • We're up to 4 friends on our MySpace page. Beat that, people! Actually, five people, cuz Danny Lewin's so cool that he counts as two.

Who Ya Gonna Call?

CK's head has been replaced this week by Ray Parker Jr.'s hit album, 'Chartbusters." Parker's album includes the hit, rip-off of Huey Lewis & the News', "I Want A New Drug". While the original is a great tune, Parker's rendition reminds me of so many great characters from that movie like, The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Venkman or Zuul and Slimer. So, everyone stop what you are doing and pick up this album, if you can find the other copy that was made. But remember, while you are listening to it, "Don't cross the streams!"

Boy, oh boy

Belated congrats (if you haven't noticed, everything we do these days is belated) to our system administrator Eric B, who is a new daddy. His wife delivered a boy, Nolan, last week. All are doing well, and now Eric has someone to talk to at 3 am when he's checking out server traffic.

So he's got that going for him, which is nice.
