How Do You Clean License Plates?
Question:
From Kathy...
Can you please tell me the best and easiest way to clean some very old and very dirty license plates? I would like to try and sell them.
Answer:
Place the license plates in a sink of hot water and wash with dishwashing liquid. You can also clean with car polish but must be gentle because it could remove the paint. WD-40 and any orange cleaner can also be used to clean the plates.
FYI...New plates are made from aluminum and old plates were made of steel. Older license plates were made of porcelain.

PS: Kathy, if none of the above work I would try "Magic Eraser" which you can buy anywhere. I use that on everything from ceramic floors, painted walls, hardwood floors, etc. I've tried the eraser on a lot of different items and love the way it takes off a lot of stains I previously had problems removing.
Have a great day! Al's Mom
