Widgets

I am sure some of you Mac fanboys out there know what widgets are. If you have the latest MacOS (10.4 or later), you have a "Dashboard" installed on your machine. Your "Dashboard" houses little applications called widgets. Some of them range from real-time weather forecasts to traffic information about your daily commute. A similar looking engine called "Konfabulator" was created and sold to Yahoo! last year. Here is a little background surrounding the the debate about the similarities and differences between the two engines. Anyway, I downloaded the Yahoo! Widget Engine the other day to see if I could put a little application together. After reading the documentation, reviewing a few examples and seeing the XML framework, I decided to create my first widget. I popped open Notepad and started cranking away on a Skeey Web Cam Widget. Here are the steps to check out the widget: 1) Download and install the Yahoo! Widget Engine 2) Download and unzip the Skeey Web Cam Widget 3) Double-click on the widget 4) Stare at us working in the office. Enjoy!
